Non-toxic and Natural Toys for the Lil’ Ones

Posted: Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I work at a small locally-owned children’s clothing and toy store called Wild Child. About 27 years ago Renee West opened the store as a result of not being able to find non-branded cotton clothing for her kids. She was also frustrated by the fact that all the toys being sold for children were made of plastic, required batteries, and broke easily. So she started Wild Child and offered safer toys made of wood that were made with non-toxic materials and lasted a long time. A lot of the toys sold at Wild Child are made in Germany, but they also carry USA-made toys. The majority of toys are made by Haba, Kathe Kruse, Selecta, and Maple Landmark Woodcraft.

Another online option to safe, non-toxic, and sustainable toys is Oompa Toys. They carry a large variety of children’s toys plus furniture, mobiles, dress-up clothing and accessories, and learning games and books. They moved from California to Madison,Wi. just recently and provide an alternative resource for discerning parents.
